ARTIST STATEMENT : Sculpture

Each sculpture I create seeks to acknowledge the inherent presence in the materials I select. The sheer weight of the metal holds emotional gravity. I am looking to draw people into an occupied space defined by the mass and solidity of each sculpture.

I create sculpture that is meant for the viewer to interpret and engage with in their own way; to move around or be drawn into quiet contemplation. I frequently use open cutouts or spaces within my designs both to highlight the solidity of my materials and to provide windows into the environments in which the sculpture lives. I seek for all my sculptures to interact with their locations and change with the viewer as they experience the work over time.
